The tournament joins the American and Aussie Opens in utilizing video review technology.
Video review technology will make its debut at The Championships this year.
Players will gain the option to contest certain calls made by the chair umpire, echoing the protocol already in operation at both the US Open and the Aussie major.
The new system is slated for use on Centre Court and Court One throughout the tournament and on the remaining show courts when they are hosting singles matches.
This development comes just a season following the All England Club introduced electronic line calling, which effectively ended the longstanding tradition of line officials.
What Can Be Reviewed?
Players will not be permitted to dispute the call of the electronic line calling, but they can request the official to review specific decisions, including:
- If a ball has bounced twice.
- Whether a ball touched an rival's racket or person during play.
- Potential hindrance end of a point.
Notably, there will be no limit on the amount of challenges a player can request.
A Recent Example
An illustrative incident occurred in Indian Wells recently, where Daniil Medvedev used the review system against his opponent.
Draper conceded it was a difficult call for the official, but believed his opponent had "used the regulations effectively."
Official Aurelie Tourte viewed a replay and determined the player was guilty of interference, awarding the rally to his opponent.
Wider Implementation
This technology are not exclusive to Grand Slams. The system was adopted at the American major for two years and the Australian Open since 2025.
Additionally, it is becoming more common on the WTA circuit, and by the coming year the ATP circuit will have video reviews implemented at all of its tournaments.
Additional Innovations
A further change at The Championships 2025 will be the addition of visual indicators on displays to complement the verbal announcements from the ELC system.
This solves situations where the crowd have occasionally been unsure whether a shot was out or in.
In other news, with exactly a century of days to go until the start of the tournament, organizers have also revealed an increase in daily attendance at the qualifiers in the qualifying venue.
